  5.                        BRING BACK THE ARK OF GOD'S PRESENCE

  11.             Speaks  of  the  truth of  Praise,  Worship,  Restoration  of  the
  12.         Presence  of God,  Discipline and every other truth necessary for  the
  13.         perfection of the church.

  15.             The  Ark  (God's presence) now goes to David's Tent in order  that
  16.         God may introduce a final truth before settling in Solomon's Temple.

  19.         1. The Restoration of David's Tabernacle

  21.         A.  THE PROMISE
  22.             (a)  Close up the breach.
  23.             (b)  Raise up his ruins and build it as in former days.
  24.             (c)  Possess the remnant of Edom.
  25.             (d)  Possess the heathen called by His Name.
  26.             (e)  Grain  and  wine  harvest  - a   quick  work  (Pentecost  and
  27.                  Tabernacle).
  28.             (f)  Turn the captivity of His people.
  29.  
  30.         B.  WHO DOES THIS BUILDING?
  31.             "I  will raise up the Tabernacle...I will raise up  his  ruins...I
  32.             will build it...saith the Lord that doeth these things."  This  is
  33.             not a new denomination of men's making, a particular ministry, but
  34.             a sovereign work of the Lord.

  36.         C.  WHAT WAS DAVID'S TABERNACLE?
  37.             Wedged between Moses' Tabernacle and Solomon's Temple, ie. a brief
  38.             time period  of  40  years  between  the  historical  worship   of
  39.             Christianity and the perfect Church.  Exuberant praise constantly.
  40.             There  is  no  veil,   form  or  tradition.    Prophecy,   musical
  41.             instruments, dancing, joy etc. - sharp contrast to Moses' pattern.

  43.         D.  THREE MOUNTAINS
  44.             Psalm  125:2  - "As  mountains around Jerusalem...so the  Lord  is
  45.             around  about  His people forever."  There were 3  main  mountains
  46.             about Jerusalem.
  47.             1. Gibeon - place of Moses' Tabernacle. 1 Chron. 21:29.
  48.                Gibeon  means  - Hill,  set on a  hill.   Therefore,  it  is  a
  49.                witness.  "A light that is set on a hill"
  50.             2. Zion - place of David's Tent.
  51.                David's  Tent was set on Zion,  which means a stronghold.   The
  52.                key to David's Tabernacle was worship,  joy, singing.  "The joy
  53.                of the Lord is my strength."
  54.             3. Moriah - place where Solomon's Temple was.
  55.                Moriah means - a place where Jehovah provides.
  56.                This  is where Abraham went to offer Isaac and God  provided  a
  57.                ram for the sacrifice.
  58.  
  59.             NOTE:-  Isaiah  2:2  - "last  days...the mountains of  the  Lord's
  60.             house  (the  Church)  shall  be established  in  the  top  of  the
  61.             mountains".   This  means  the  Church  will  be  established  and
  62.             grounded  upon  the truths depicted in these  3  mountains.   This
  63.             shows  that  God  is not doing away with the teachings  of  Moses'
  64.             Tabernacle  (former  truths) for it was still set  up  in  Gibeon.
  65.             Neither is David's Tabernacle the ultimate,  but all three signify
  66.             important truths in which the Church must be grounded.

  68.             NOTE:  The  Saul  System  (former  truths) and  the  David  System
  69.             (restoration truths)
  70.  
  71.             Saul represents a system that is by and large operating on natural
  72.             levels;  a  system  that is unfaithful to the God  who  originally
  73.             anointed it.  David represents the new anointing (1 Sam. 16:1-13,
  74.             17-21; 2 Sam 3-5).  Notice that David owes his heritage largely to
  75.             the Saul system...and it is for the benefit of the whole people of
  76.             God that the new anointing comes.  In 1 Sam 5 we read of the great
  77.             victories  that  resulted  from the new  anointing...the  city  of
  78.             Jerusalem was taken, and the Philistines were defeated!

  80.         2.  Bringing Back The Ark Of God's Presence. Part 1.

  82.             a. The Importance of the Ark
  83.                The Ark of the Covenant was originally housed in the Most  Holy
  84.                Place of the Tabernacle of Moses.   It was not just symbolic of
  85.                the Presence of God...it was where the MANIFEST PRESENCE OF GOD
  86.                rested.  We speak of the Presence of God in two ways:
  87.                (1) The  OMNIpresence  of God - the sense in which  God  is
  88.                    everywhere. cf. Psalm 139.
  89.                (2) The MANIFEST presence of God - when God reveals Himself
  90.                    in a powerful worship demanding fashion.
  91.  
  92.             b.    God's manifest presence (the "shekinah") descended upon  the
  93.                Ark in Exodus 40:33-38, where the "glory of the Lord filled the
  94.                Tabernacle."   Prior to this Moses journeyed into the  presence
  95.                of the Lord, and he was visibly changed by this experience (Ex.
  96.                34:29-35).   The  Presence was so manifest on the Ark that when
  97.                the Ark set forth or rested, Moses addressed it as "Lord" (Num.
  98.                10:35-36).   All  through the wanderings in the wilderness  and
  99.                the conquest of Canaan this  thought is maintained.   When  the
  100.                Ark  is  captured  in  1 Sam 4,  the  children  of  Israel  are
  101.                conscious  that they had lost more than a  material  Ark;  they
  102.                knew that the "Glory" had departed with it. (1 Sam 4:21-22).

  104.                   The Ark typifies the fulness of the tri-une Godhead, Father,
  105.                Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  106.  
  107.             c. The Mercy Seat...Exodus 25:17, 21-22.
  108.                Place of holiness, justice and righteousness.
  109.                Place of atonement and propitiation.
  110.                Place of mercy and reconciliation.
  111.                Place of communion between God and man.
  112.                Place where the glory of God rested.
  113.                Place where God recorded His name (2 Sam 6:1-2).
  114.         "And  thou  shalt make a mercy seat  of pure gold:  two cubits and  a
  115.         half  shall be the  length thereof,  and a cubit and a half the breath
  116.         thereof.  And thou shalt put  the Mercy Seat upon the Ark:  and in the
  117.         Ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.  And there  I
  118.         will  meet with thee and I will commune with thee from above the Mercy
  119.         Seat,  from  between  the two cheribum which are upon the Ark  of  the
  120.         testimony,  of all things which I will give thee in commandment to the
  121.         children of Israel." Ex. 25:17,21-22.

  123.             d. The Journey to Jerusalem
  124.  
  125.                1. The first attempt (2 Sam. 6:6-7)
  126.                   Out of divine order...note 1 Chron. 15:13.
  127.                   Watch how you handle the Presence of God!
  128.  
  129.                2. The second (successful!) attempt - 2 Sam. 6; 1 Chron. 15:14-
  130.                   29; 16:1-37.
  131.                   Blessing  on  Obed-edom's  house  (2  Sam.   6:11).   It  is
  132.                   impossible to have a right spirit and an open heart  towards
  133.                   God  and not be blessed if the manifest Presence of the Lord
  134.                   is  in your midst.   However,  the Presence is not for  some
  135.                   little group,  but for ALL ISRAEL...and so when David  heard
  136.                   about  the  blessing  on Obed-edom's house,  he  decided  to
  137.                   bring  the  Ark to Jerusalem...this time according to  God's
  138.                   divine  order.   The  Ark was not to be transported  by  any
  139.                   vehicle - it was to be by four priests, placing the carrying
  140.                   poles upon their shoulders.  1 Chron.  15:2, 12-15...cf Num.
  141.                   4:15.
  142.                        * The Levites sanctified themselves (1 Chron. 15:12).
  143.                        * The Levites carried  the  Ark of the Presence...ie the
  144.                          ministry.
  145.                        * The Chief Levites are taught to sing and play the NEW
  146.                          SONG unto the  Lord...1 Chron. 15:16-28.
  147.                        * They  sacrificed and  brought the Ark to  a  prepared
  148.                          tent.
  149.  
  150.         2.  Bringing Back The Ark Of God's Presence.  Part 2.
  151.  
  152.             The  steps  taken in the recovery of the Ark is a picture  of  the
  153.         steps we must take for His presence to be restored today.
  154.  
  155.         1.  A desire for the return of the Ark
  156.             God's people must have a hunger, a desperation for the restoration
  157.             of God's presence.  All that it contained and all it represents is
  158.             being restored today.  Note the significance of its contents.
  159.  
  160.             The contents of the Ark...Hebrews 9:4
  161.             (i)   The tablets of the Law
  162.                   The  two  broken  stone tablets  containing  the  Law  given
  163.                   through  Moses  were placed in the Ark as a reminder of  the
  164.                   JUSTICE of GOD. Ex. 25:16.  This is a type of the Father for
  165.                   it was by His voice that the Law was first given.   Symbolic
  166.                   of the Father's power and authority.
  167.             (ii)  The golden pot of manna
  168.                   The  manna was the bread from heaven upon which  Israel  fed
  169.                   for forty years in the wilderness (Num.  11:7-9;  Ex. 16:11-
  170.                   31).  All the people were responsible to gather it early for
  171.                   themselves.   No-one  could eat for another.   Jesus is  the
  172.                   golden (divine) Pot of Manna. Jn. 6:51.  type of the SON.
  173.             (iii) Aaron's rod that budded
  174.                   In Numbers 17:1-10 we read of the rebellion of Korah against
  175.                   Aaron.   God  commanded  Moses to take twelve rods  for  the
  176.                   twelve  tribes  and  to  write their  tribal  names  thereon
  177.                   (Aaron's  rod having his personal name on  it).   Moses  was
  178.                   commanded  to lay them up in the Presence...the Lord  before
  179.                   the Ark.  In the morning Aaron's rod was manifested in life,
  180.                   having  the  bud,  the flower,  and the almond  fruit.   The
  181.                   fruitfulness  of  Aaron's rod attested that he was  the  God
  182.                   anointed  High Priest in Israel.   Type of the anointing  of
  183.                   the Holy Spirit.

  185.         2.  A place prepared for the Ark  1 Chron. 15:1.
  186.             This  is the day of preparation among God's people  to  accommodate
  187.             the Ark of His presence.  A place must be prepared in our hearts.
  188.  
  189.         3.  The Priesthood prepared to carry the Ark  vs.2, 12-14.
  190.             Note their high qualifications, Lev. 21.  Only those set apart for
  191.             God  will be instrumental in bringing back the presence of God and
  192.             all associated with it.  God will use dedicated, committed men.
  193.  
  194.         4.  The people prepared to accompany the Ark  vs.3
  195.             We  must  be gripped by the vision of the coming together  of  the
  196.             Body of Christ if we want the Ark to return.   All tribal barriers
  197.             are to come down.  This is Jesus' prayer that they may all be one.
  198.  
  199.         5.  Brought  the  Ark  back  with  shouting,  instruments  of  music,
  200.             singing, dancing  vs. 28, 16-29.
  201.             Praise  and  worship with instruments and great joy is  vital  and
  202.             necessary for the restoration of His presence in all its fulness.
  203.  
  204.         6.  Offered 7 bullocks and 7 rams  vs. 26.
  205.             A  spirit of giving and sacrifice together with joy,  singing  and
  206.             dancing.   These  go together.   The number 7 speaks  of  complete
  207.             surrender.

  209.         CONCLUSION
  210.  
  211.         1.     David's   Tabernacle   was   filled  with  music,  praise   and
  212.             worship.    1  Chronicles  15:14-28 is a brief description of  the
  213.             singers,  musicians and dancers who were involved in bringing  the
  214.             Ark of God (speaking of the "presence of God") to the tabernacle.
  215.  
  216.         2.     Solomon (David's son) who reigned over Israel after David built
  217.             a  temple  to  the  Lord  (2  chron.  5:1)  which  was  even  more
  218.             astounding, and in 2 Chron. 5:12, 13, 14 we read of the tremendous
  219.             glory  that  was in that temple,  to such an extent that even  the
  220.             priests  could not stand to minister.   Verse 14,  Solomon  (whose
  221.             name means "peace") had completed his building (in 7 years) but it
  222.             was  missing  something.   The God for whom  it  was  built.   The
  223.             singers  and  musicians that David had ordained entered  into  the
  224.             temple  "and lifted up their voices with trumpets and cymbals  and
  225.             instruments  of music and praised the Lord...(then) the House  was
  226.             filled with a cloud...for the  Glory  of the Lord had  filled  the
  227.             House of God"  (2 Chron. 5:12-14).

  229.         3.     Today's  church  is  still  being built.   In  many  ways  it's
  230.             structure is complete,  but still something is lacking.   This  is
  231.             the "latter rain" we are living in today, and this will come as it
  232.             did  in  Solomon's time,  when musicians and singers of  the  Lord
  233.             allow  themselves to be placed in the House of God by the One  who
  234.             built it.
  235.                Even  though  this  sounds fantastic and God's Glory  was  with
  236.             Moses,  David and Solomon, the book of Haggai 2:9 says, "the glory
  237.             of  this latter house shall be greater than of the  former,  saith
  238.             the Lord of hosts;  and in this place will I give peace, saith the
  239.             Lord of hosts."
